Solar panel FAQs

Do solar panels only need daylight?

Yes. They generate electricity whenever there is natural light, so they still produce power on cloudy days, in winter and in indirect sunlight.

Will Scotland's cold weather affect my panels?

No. Cold temperatures can actually improve efficiency, as panels work better when cool.

How long do solar panels last?

We only install panels that come with 25 or 30 year warranties.

How much can I save on energy bills?

Savings depend on your energy usage, system size and electricity rates. Many households significantly reduce their bills, and some generate more energy than they use.

Do solar panels need much maintenance?

No. Solar panels are very low maintenance. Occasional cleaning and a system check are usually all that is needed.

Will solar panels damage my roof?

No. When installed correctly by qualified professionals, solar panels do not damage your roof and can even help protect it from the weather.

Do I need planning permission?

In most cases, home solar panels do not need planning permission. Exceptions may apply for listed buildings or conservation areas.

Should I get a battery with my solar panels?

We always recommend a battery as part of your solar installation, but we can also add one later.

How long does installation take?

Most home installations are completed in 1 to 2 days, depending on system size and roof type.
